Coming Un-Boxed

Today is December 26, traditionally called boxing day.  As a child I could never understand what boxing day actually meant, although in our house, Daddy would jump out and box my arm (ouch!) and gleefully yell "Happy Boxing Day!" at a usually sleepy, befuddled me!

Some people say that it in the old days in Merry England, the servants of the rich were allowed the 26th off for Christmas and given boxes of stuff (possibly some food or left overs and old things like clothes) to take home for the day.  Now, in a lot of places, it is Sales time!

Whatever its origins, I thought about the word 'boxing', in terms of being 'boxed' in, constricted by societal norms, restricted by the 'do's and the don't's imposed by others and even ourselves.

Someone told me the other day that 'normal' was decided by what 60% of a population agreed on, on a Bell Curve.  Sixty per cent!  That leaves a whopping 40% not doing or thinking what the 'majority' are  thinking and doing!  Yup, these are the people doing their own thing ....

Great strides in every arena of life have never been made by coloring within the lines.  The thinkers through the ages always brought forth new, refreshing ideas and solutions for their time.  Status quo was to be challenged.  Innovation and invention must by their very concept go beyond what has been done before.

We are in a new energy, a new space of being and possibility.  'Same old, same old' will not work with more people becoming restless and wanting a new way to be.  We're on our way to 2013!

It is time for challenging ourselves, our beliefs, our ways of doing things.  It is time for reaching for the stars.

Now is the time for stepping out of the boxes we have imposed on ourselves and the boxes others have helped us create for our lives.  It is time for the new to come in.  For us to re-define who we are in relation to ourselves, our relationships, what we want to do, be and achieve.

If we do find the same patterns repeating in our lives, ask why it is and change it.  There are amazing tools we can use for this purpose.

If you do need any assistance in clearing old patterns and shifting into new possibilities, I want you to know that I would be happy to give you the help you need.  You can e-mail me at  karendawson@gmail.com  and we can arrange to have a private session in person, over the phone or via skype.

I would like to share the video below which is the official video of Fly by Nikki Minaj (feat Rihanna).  Nikki is nothing, if not an original!  Please listen to the words which are powerful I am sure you will love it as much as I do.  And thank you, Sheela Haran of Capital FM, the radio station for women, for introducing me to this song!
